I myself live in the country (well sort of) and we have a woods for a backyard. I'm afraid of in the winter because the bears come out and eat the bird feed, and trash the yard and ripped our storm door out.
Sometimes it's scary when the campers are out camping and raising heck because they can get pretty loud. Making all these noises like barbarians, that's probably because they are drunk.
Anyways other then that I really don't have anything to be afraid of.
Now if you lived in Oregon...that's another story with "BigFoot" and all. :-/

Yes - "The Blair Witch Project" terrified me, despite the fact that everyone thinks it's corny. I don't like the woods because of all of the things that could happen to you: you could get lost, break a bone, fall in a hole, run across some people doing some illegal business ... the weather can be unforgiving, the animals are everywhere, and if you don't know how to fend for yourself, it would be very easy to die.

OOOH yes. it's the fear of the unknown. You don't know what lurks behind those trees. When I was a little girl I loved the woods and hoped I would see a fairy but as I got older and heard about awful things that have happened in woods,it set my mind a wandering.

I am really scared especially when it is dark but I am getting used to it because I have to walk through them every morning at 5:55am (while the moon is still out) to get to my bus stop a half a mile away the first day I had to do that I had a panick attack pretty much lol

Yes, because you can't see through them and have no way of knowing what lurks there. I'm also scared of lakes. The thought of being near either one after dark gives me the chills.

no, I love it! that's where I'm at home. It can be very scary, especially at night, especially if it's windy, it makes all kinds of noises. But the sunlight coming through the leaves and needles, and everything, oh man, you can't replace that, you can't simluate it, it's just this awesome, surreal feeling and you can only experience it to know what it feels like!
