Once you carve a pumpkin, there are lots of ways to preserve it.

• coat the inside in petroleum jelly
• spray the interior with WD-40
• refrigerate
• soak in water to rehydrate

Any of these methods work, but I prefer the WD-40.

The best way to get it to last longer is when carving it, cut it open from the bottom instead of the top. This helps it last longer, becuase in mornings when the dew rises it can get to the pumpkin. When you cut the pumpkins open from the top moisture can not get to them that way.

Give your fairy Godmother a ten spot and request a more lenient curfew--- Just Kidding--A cool location with ventilation beneath, out of direct sunlight. If you live in a cool climate store outdoors on top of a crate. Refrigerate in a warmer climate if you have the room. Also the longer you wait to carve it the longer it will last.

Refridgerate them when they aren't being displayed. You can also coat the cut edges with a thin layer of Vasoline. That keeps them moister a little bit longer. If they start to shrivel, you can put them face down in a sink of water for a few hours. That plumps them back up but it also causes them to rot a little sooner too. I usually save that for a last resort.

Wipe the inside out completely with bleach. This will keep it from becoming moldy.

Then coat the inside with vaseline or vegetable oil to keep it from drying out and shrinking.

Happy Halloween!!
