Although we need better funded schools, our government has no interest in doing so. We only need to know enough to do the work, but not enough to expose them. Why do you think law enforcement won't hire people that are too smart?

Once our current system of American Nobles is destroyed by time, then will we see a change into a progressive nation of the future. But until then, we will just pay more.

Our educational system is an embarrassment that most folks overlook. Like healthcare there's been a long term benign neglect that's resulted in crumbling institutions all over the country. Yes they need better funding...TAX CONSUMPTION not income. Do it now. It's also called the dumbing down of America...If we become as stupid as folks in some other countries that shall remain nameless than we'll be completely without free will...Think about what uninformed decisions result in. Can you currently say you understand what's on your ballot? The government exercises more control when people are stupid and those in government know that. PEACE!

I truly believe that the solution to the school problem may indeed be as simple as funding...and to be more specific, it is about funding teacher salaries....

As the teaching profession now stands, it is one of the more maligned professions in all of our society. The general public, politicians, and a good chunk of parents see teachers in a negative light....

While there can be little doubt that there are bad teachers out there, what incentives are there really to lure the best and brightest into the world of teaching? You will get mediocre pay and low esteem in society....

Now imagine a world in which teachers were paid like doctors, lawyers, and other highly paid professions.....Then, when someone is truly gifted, brilliant, and talented they might actually pursue a career in education.....it will pay to do so...

As it is, we have set up a system with mediocre pay and lousy respect.....So we get (for the most part) mediocre people that are worthy of mediocre respect...

We need to change the paradigm dramatically.....

The irony is, that the far right wing, the most fervent believers in the free enterprise system, are the onest that fight to keep salaries for teachers low and malign teachers at every turn...

We are reaping what we sow....

In the Senate and The House, there is only one person whose children attend a public school. Do you really think our elected officials give a flying flip about public schools? I do agree that more funding is needed. Most public schools were built in the 50's and are literally crumbling down. And they are almost impossible to wire for today's technology.

A good first step would be to fully fund the allotments that are supposed to be going to schools. Another good step would be to stop wasting money on the testing requirements of No Child Left Behind and put the money into real education, leaving the testing to the teachers.

Public schools do not lack money -- they lack a prudent method to spend what they already have.

First the word national and public schools should never be uttered in the same sentence --- national schooling, has historically been indoctrination. Our system depends on 50 crucibles of democracy.

Second --- let the parents of the children spend the educational funds via vouchers on schools that work and schools that teach. Variety is good in all things and it is vital in education for education choice opens the mind.

Stop waisting money on teachers who are terrible and the ridiculous fringe benefits and pay teachers more based on merit.
