I agree with you. I do not agree with the school giving the KIDS birth control. That is the parents responsibility.

So, people have a problem with their kids saying the Pledge of Alliegence, but will put their kid on birth control!? This is absolutely ridiculous. We need to stop this mentality of "Well they're gonna do it anyway." and "kids are starting younger and younger..." Well gee, why do ya think?! By doing these dumb things, we are basically giving kids the green light, and pretty much encouraging them to have sex! At this age, it can pretty much be called statuatory rape, so technically, they are promoting breaking the law. I don't care what kind of so called "mature" sixth, seventh, or eighth grader you show me, they are not mature enough to deal with the aftermath of sex, no matter how many condoms or pills you give them. They don't even understand what love is. Real love. Like actually caring about someone so much, you could spend the rest of their life with them. This whole issue is the result of kids wanting to grow up too fast. Our society has become such a twisted one, that we think it is adoreable when kids rap, and cute when little girls basically dance like strippers. I can see that if a little girl was raped, then yes, something needs to be worked out, but birth control isn't going to solve her problem or the sick man raping her. It is much bigger than that. She would need to seek the help of authorities, not a drug, to deal with her emotional trauma and put this sicko away. And it's not the school's place to be giving out these sex-promoting items! This whole issue is just putting all the responsiblility of proper parenting with the schools, and it isn't right! Parents need to set limits and say no. They shouldn't be friends, kids have those too, but no one can replace the job of a parent. Not the government, not the nurse, not a school.

Well lets not forget the good all Condom, the most common and most, when worn properly, effective form of birth control.
There are other Forms of Barrie birth control.
Follow the link below, i checked it out and it gives you in depth detail plus pictures of the different birth control.
Now about what you said in your question, i totally agree with you, the school shouldn't get involved, it should only be about the patient and the doctor. Why doe the school need to know, it doesn't concern them at all and also it just means more people know about what going on. it's just easier if kids could go to health clinics on their own without their parent.
which incidentally you can do in good old England(Last time i checked);Which if you haven't figured out, it is where i live :)
I sure hope this Information is of any use, but like i said, follow the link and you will get all the information about Birth control

It all goes back to the home life. These days people are taking a good homelife and communication with parents for granted. Parents are still the biggest role model for children. Unfortunately some parents find this topic to scary and leave it up to schools and other outside influences to do it for them. Parents like me that are going to have conversations about sex with their children get the short end of the stick and have to deal with their children being given the option of having birth control. Its all going to blow up in their faces. Girls will get it because its cool. Did they forget they are putting medication in to the hands of people that can't even drive let alone make their own GOOD decisions? I live in Texas and there is no way my daughter would ever get birth control. Leave that to me. The government should try to encourage talking to their parents first. I understand this doesn't work for everyone. Are they going to have sex ed with these pills? Stop treating sex as if it's a bad thing. It's a beautiful thing given by God when being done at the right time. My daughter is in love with electrical outlets because I won't let her play with them. They are forbidden. That makes her more curious. Same thing with sex. So if we embrace sex when married perhaps children will also.

Sorry if I'm not informed here.. I'm all the way across the country in Oregon! Sounds like teens will be able to go to their school officials for help with birth control? Here this has always been the case. My friend was worried about me after my first time and spoke to a counselor (left my name out) the counselor gave her a pregnancy test and some condoms to give to me. This was a lifesaver! When you are young you are completely scared and ashamed in some cases that you didn't wait, didn't use protection, didn't tell your parents, nervous that you are pregnant.... You want to go to someone that you trust, in many cases, this may be your teacher or school nurse, counselor, principal. After I took the pregnancy test, which was negative (yay) I personally went into that counselors office, told them that I was the person my friend was talking about and thanked them for helping me. They encouraged me to go to planned parenthood to get birth control and to talk to my parents. I did both. I've been on the pill for over 11 years. If that counselor wasn't there to help, who knows where I'd be.
So I think its a good idea to have schools involved. Schools are, in fact, where most children and teens spend their time. Their teachers in most cases spend more time with the children/teens that their parents do on most days.
Sex ed as well as a clinic in each school providing this service would be excellent, that way students wouldn't have to go off campus to go to planned parenthood or a different clinic.

First off, I love Maine, its one of the most beautiful states I've ever been to. The fall weather is great, too.=)
Now that I've said that, I think that giving birth control to kids in middle school is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard! Kids in middle school are just that--kids! Kids should not be having sex! They should be focusing on school, grades, friends and family. They should not be focusing on having sex with their boyfriends or girlfriends. Just because schools want to teach studesnt "safe sex" doesn't mean they should throw birth control and a box of condoms at them and hope for the best! The kids shouldn't be having sex in the first place! Schools should expand their health classes if they're that concerned that their students are sexually active. They need to tell students about the emotional and physical risks. They need to talk about the importance of finishing school and doing well. They need to talk about WHY kids shouldn't be having sex, not giving them a reason to make it okay to have sex. Birth control says "Its okay to have sex as long as you're safe!" I agree with this 100%--as long as you're over 18 or out of school. When you're handing birth control out to 11 year olds, that's wrong. They're not physically, mentally or emotionally ready to have sex! More and more schools are handing out birth control to students and it makes me sick. That's saying its okay to have sex at their age, and its not! If they want to be put on birth control, they need to go to a doctor--not their health teacher!

Okay, how are people going to complain about all these pregnant 11 and 12 year olds, and then when some school tries to fix the problem, giving them birth control is wrong. Sex ed does teach EVERYTHING that could go wrong if you have sex as a teenager. Obviously just teaching them about it isn't working, maybe because they aren't listening. I think its a good idea and they should start doing it in my town.

I'd rather they were passing out condoms, which are not only birth control, but also STD control. I'm for every form of birth control for kids (except abortion), freely given if the rate of teen pregnancies go down. But if a girl thinks she's safe just because she's on the pill, she's more likely to sleep around and pick up the muck off the floor.

I am totally FOR giving out free birth control from the school.
Here we see two scenarios:
1. One girl has a boyfriend. She loves him to pieces and decides to have sex with him. Her parents don't like him, and they don't support her at all. She winds up pregnant.
2. Another girl has an abusive father. He sexually abuses her every day. She can't tell her mom, and her father won't help, of course. She too winds up pregnant.
What's the one thing they both needed but didn't have?
BIRTH CONTROL.
If the school would have handed out free birth control, then neither of these babies would have been made.

Lets have a look at the facts and why those who think like you are tottally WRONG
Kids dont bleed once a month, have breasts or get erections and produce sperm
http://www.advocatesforyouth.org/publications/factsheet/fsest.htm
The Dutch all start sex ed from age 4 and very heavily involved in teen sex lives.
They dont have a one hour talk... they are taught from the age of four and by the time they are teenagers will already have had hundreds of hours of sex and relationship lessons and had to practice with contrception over and over and over again.
EVERY ASPECT IS INCLUDED FROM A YOUNG AGE GAYS, LESBINS, BY EARLY TEENAGE MASTERBATION IN GRPAHIC DETAIL AND TIPS.
BY 14 WE ARE TALKING FIELD TRIPS TO ANN SUMMERS STYLE SEX SHOPS AND FULLY SUPPORT FOR CONTRCEPTION TO TEENAGERS MOST USING TWO TYPES..
result...
TOTAL DERANGED PARENTS WHO THINK TEENAGERS ARE CHILDREN WHO SHOULD ABSTAIN
Have 10 times te teen pregnancies, and 74 times the std rate.
to the liberal Dutch who bring up kids to have no embarrasment or awkardness in discussing any aspect of sex be it oral sex, dating, how to tell a guy or girl likes you, masturbation, fingering, what gays or lesbians do, foreplay, snuggling, breaking up, etc.
Schools are the perfect place for the pill
10 oclock every day like clock work if parents take over on the weekends and holidays and can be arrested if it is found thay did not make sure kids took the pill on time on any day.
Unless depo injections or nuva rinfg insertion every 3 or 1 month (dep on which) with free condoms always available and the morning after pills.
You wont encourage anything thats not already there but will see whats there dont turn out bad.
The thicko americans with the highest teen pregnancy rate would conser lessons in girls using vibrators and how too guide offensive, not for kids, perverted, wrong.
The Dutch attiude is sex and pleasure is normal... AND AONLY A DUMB AS A TENN METRE THICK DENCE AMERICAL OR OTHER PURITAN WOULD BE DUM,B ENOUGH TO THINK YOU GOT PREGNANT WITH A SEX TOY MEANT TO RELIEVE SEXAUL TENSTION SO THE GIRL HAS LESS SEX AND THUS SAFER.

Should parents and teachers be battered into hospital if their teenage kid is found not to know what precume is, if they think you wont get pregnant if the guy pulls out, or thinking there are safe times of the month.
Or how about comparing the dtuch system with the US system?
Ie The Dutch system which has one of the best records in preventing teen pregnancy and stds AND having balanced kids.
Compared to you system with the worst success rate in the western world
