I might have to get a D & C to clean out my endometrial lining. Can anyone tell me how they do it?

I did not have a miscarriage. I am actually still a virgin. I have just been bleeding unbelievably heavy since Oct. 1 and my gyno said a D & C may be the last option if the pill doesn't help. I don't want to get one (obviously), but would like more information about it, so I can be prepared if it comes to that.

Thanks.

I heard that they have to use some kind of gas to inflate your uterus...is that true?

Hi. I'm a nurse in surgical services and have not only pre-oped and recovered patients, but I have also circulated during the actual surgery.

This surgery is very simple. After you are put to sleep, you are placed in stirrups. Your bladder may be emptied by catheter if your surgeon desires. Small cone shaped metal rods are gently inserted into the cervix to dilate or make the cervix open enough to get the suction tube into the uterus. The suction then removes all the endometrium just like a vaccuum. It may take up to a half hour to do the entire proceedure.

Post-op, you can expect some cramping, like that of a heavy period. Nothing that Midol won't help. You may still bleed for several days afterwards, but it should help. If you have any other questions, just ask!

Google it for a medical explanation.

I had Endometriosis for twenty five years. I also had three D & C's.

They put you to sleep, so you would not be awake for it.
They do must what the Doctor told you, they clean out the lining. I was asleep for all of mine. Two were easy afterward and one was painful.

Try to stick it out with the pills as long as you can. If you are young and married and plan to have children, you might want to start soon. Endometriosis can cause problems in pregnancy and getting pregnant.

I had a partial hysterectomy, 3 D & C's a uterine suspension, and the final measure was a complete Hysterectomy.

Good Luck, it is challenging.

I had a D&C when I was 19 for a miscarriage. I was asleep for the procedure, and when I woke up, I was crampy for a day or so, and that was about it. My bleeding stopped within a week, and I went about my life from there.
