A simple excel spreadsheet is best. It is all I have ever used and is more than capable of getting the job done.

Personally, I just use Excel.

Excel is flexible enough so can arrange the data any way you want.

If you don't have Excel and don't want to buy it. Download a copy of "Open Office" (its free!!). It's spreadsheet program is pretty good.
