This is where faith counts. If you believe in everlasting life, you live on. If you are not a believer, you undoubtedly think that the spirit dies with the body. Scientists are in a quandry because they KNOW that energy cannot be destroyed, but they don't want to believe, so for the scientists, where does that spiritual energy go?
If you are a believer in the bible, you are made in the image of your creator, who is capable of living forever and being reborn---and reincarnation, the belief of some eastern people, suggests that is possible.

Faith is the key. Either you believe or you do not. It is a very personal choice.

I do believe that there is something after death. It's a comforting thought that part of me could continue. I'd like to think that if I didnt do so well this time around that I'd have another chance to be recycled and come back for another try. I think of my body just as a vessel to house the essence of me which is my spirit or soul so using another body at a later date isnt beyond what might be possible.

Define what a spirit is without the help of anything you've learned from religion or philosophy and you will have an answer to your question.
You can not define what a spirit is without these as they are the origins of the idea.
How can an idea contain the memory of experiences? What are you other than memories and hopes? How can that be a self contained entity called 'spirit'? If you are more than that then what is 'that' and is 'that' touched by the decay of the body?

I believe that when we die, we die. But here is where I get confused. I do believe that there is supernatural activity out there. I know people personally that have had experiences with them. So is it only certain spirits that roam the earth, or what?

no honey...our spiritual "energy" is our life force. The force of the biochemical reactions that are taking place in our bodies. As we grow older the reaction loses speed and, finally when we "die", the reaction is over. After that there is nothing left. Our flesh will return to the earth so some other creature may live.

If you agree with Nietzsche as I do that "soul is only a word for something about the body", then no, what we call the soul dies with the body.

No, it's a nice thought, but no. We end with our bodies. I wish it were otherwise.
But on the other hand the fact that we are only here once means that life is all the sweeter, so live with joy in your heart and a spring in your step. Take care.

I don't think we can know, though I like to imagine we do. When I look inside myself & ask myself, "Will this being I feel I am go on forever?" my intuition says "yes" and my head says "maybe".
