The Grand Canyon was carved by the Colorado River. This river forms most of the western border of Arizona. The Grand Canyon is upstream from that part of the river and entirely within the state of Arizona, about 80 km south of Arizona's northern border and 180 km east of Nevada's long easternmost border [1], at location 36.1 deg N, 112.1 deg W [2].
