If you are on bc pills and are significantly late with a pill, this can cause breakthrough bleeding that can be almost as heavy as a light period. If you are on bc pills, and having trouble remembering or sticking to the same time of day for your pills, then this could be what you are seeing.

If you're sexually active you may be having a miscarriage but depending on your age it sounds a lot like menopause. Maybe even early onset menopause. You should definitely get this checked out. Good Luck!!

I'm no expert- but my mom had a similar problem when she was younger and the medical reason she was given was that having multiple periods in one month was caused by stress.

Are you on oral contraceptives? Missing a pill or two? Are you on any other contraceptives containing hormones? Have you visited your gyn in the last year?
Better call your dr. If this continues, you'll become anemic.

This could be a lot of things but I would see a doc. abnormal bleeding is not good no matter how you tweak it.
