The death penalty for serious crimes.

Is it effective? A widely debated topic. I have read research it is effective in only in certain cases and those involve those who kill to eliminate witnesses to another lesser crime.

I am generally in favor of capital punishment of those involved with hired killing, witness elimination, and for those who kill with a long and violent criminal past.

As to its purpose some only see its purpose as deterring others from committing violent crime, others see it as justice for the victims, and others may view with a mix. However, the purpose generally is the same with any other criminal punishment to punish and deter.
