Computers were around long before Bill Gates was a twinkle in his mom and dads eyes. He is not the father of computers. By the way the credited first computer was the abacus invented in China. Bill is given credit with promoting and marketing dos and subsequent versions which led to windows, etc... It is still contended that the programs he has used to make his kingdom were stolen from the UNIX form of programing. Now in defense of Mr. Gates I will say he does give lots of time and money back into the communities around the world. In fact he gives to charity and other good causes far more then anyone else in the world. NOW MY PERSONAL NOTE::: His wife is hot.

he's not called the inventor of the computer! he is however mistaken by many as the inventor purely because he took the invention to where it is now.

the inventor of the modern day computer as we know it (although in an early form) was Charles Babbage.

before that a guy called Mueller thought of the idea in 1786, however it was only an idea and never got built.

These above were inventions based on electronic computers,
but you can go even further back to around 250bc when there was a mechanical computer made known as the "Antikythera Machine" which basically computed the position of the stars on a date in the past or future.

The computer was invented 30 years or so before Microsoft, and the first one took up 4 floors of an office building.
