I too am in Oceanside. Luckily we are okay, just keeping an eye on the Fallbrook situation. We have family friends from Valley Center who evacuated at 6am. Friends in Ramona are out of their house as are their family members in Rancho Bernardo. My Dad and his girlfriend from Scripps Ranch left last night. We also have family in Escondido who are attempting to stay put. They are at the very west end though so I'm hopeful. This is crazy, almost like a bad dream. I continue to tell myself that it happens for a reason and thank God we've only had 1 death. That's unfortunate but it could be much worse. I love the community effort I see on TV when it comes to the shelters and Qualcomm. Let's just try to keep up good spirits and know that we can rebuild a home but cannot rebuild lives! Stay safe San Diego!

It's predicted to be worse, but I don't think it will be. 2003 was hell. This is spreading a lot faster than it did then, but it's not doing as much damage as 2003 did. Hopefully the Santa Ana winds will die down tomorrow.

I'm in Escondido...right next to the San Marcos fire, and the Lake Hodges fire is just south of me. I definitely feel your pain. The hill next to my house has already been evacuated, and some of my neighbors have already left. Several of my best friends have been evacuated too, and one of their neighborhoods completely burned to the ground. The air quality is driving me crazy right now! Fumes everywhere. Crazy headache. And I almost fell down because I was so dizzy.

Ugh...this is terrible.

I'm in Escondido and feel not only your pain, but your fear as well. I agree, this is much worse than the 2003 fires, the wind is howling through our canyon with gusts at 60-70 miles an hour and we are encircled with flames. They have asked us not to get on the roads until we receive official mandatory evacuation orders. I don't feel the heat yet, but I'm sure breathing the smoke and feeling the ash in my eyes. Be safe dude, prepare to evacuate and keep focused on what is important in life. You can replace your home, but not your life or family. Good luck and God Bless!

Many prayers have gone up & God has heard the prayers. We now need to thank God for the people who are making a difference & for the safety of people who are stuck in this situation. I thank God that their needs are taken care of with more than enouph & plenty left over. That the insurance companies will pay the cost. That the government will pay whatever additional that is necessary to reconstruct, etc... But, I think we need to look into what we (US) could have done to prevent this in the first place. Maybe we weren't praying enouph ahead of time. The Lord told me not to pray about the fires, but to pray for the people & their safety & well being. Also, thank God that there hasn't been more than 2 deaths known so far. God is surely giving favor & protecting people through this very difficult time. What the enemy has meant to destroy lives, the Lord has prevented many deaths.

I'm in Oceanside, we moved to SD County right after the 2003 fires so this is our first. I can't tell you how weird it is to have looked outside yesterday and see the brown cloud come up from the south and down from the norht closing in on us. I work in Santa Ana and the drive was really depressing on the way home yesterday.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT: We all have to work together! My husband and I drove 2 hours earlier to work to help keep the traffic clear during rush hour. I will contact my local safty housing to see if we can invite a family in need into our home. WE ALL HAVE TO DO OUR PART!!! We all have to tell everyone to do their part!

Keep the word moving....and good fortune to all!

I hate fires and I totally feel for you my friend. We have had some big ones here in Hawaii too, but not like what you are having. I know of those santa anna winds, and they are dangerous. I hope the governor has called for a state of emergency. I hope you get out of there safely.

sorry to hear that. :[

in the area where i live, it's not so bad. but i had to evacuate from school because the fire reached a nearby neighborhood, so yeah. there isn't anything major [where i'm currently at], where i'd have to pack up to evacuate the area, but i can see the fire, and some friends of mine's are evacuating their homes.
