My aunt's name was Deloras Alberta. I had an ancestor
named Zasock Granger and another one named
Torusha Graves. There was also one named Ebenezer
Seymour. I had a great-grandfather named Cornelius.
Aren't some of those names a hoot?

Josephina, too. That is the name of my 5 year old. Myrtle, and Minnie Ann. I liked Minnie Ann for my youngest, but her 13 year old sister is Ann Marie and so the nurse goes she's so tiny like a little lilly, and on the way to the hospital my husband and I noticed that the lilys were blooming out of season, and we were like thank you, that's her name Lily, and we chose Constantina after St. Constantine who introduced the Lily into the catholic church.

Even though my grandmother on my father's side was born in Canada she never spoke much more than Ukrainian for her whole life. Her name, rendered as closely as I can since these aren't Cyrillic letters was Katerzina. She gave all her children traditional Slavic names Yvan for my dad, known as John (I much prefer the original).
My mother's parents, when they immigrated took Anglicized names and dropped the use of their original ones completely. Her father was known as Stanley (not at all Polish, is it?) and her mother went by Daisy--a name that even my mother admitted was totally inappropriate for her. (I have been told I get my dragon nature from her...) My mother was christened Alexandra, but since she also had a brother Alexander going to the same one room school house, her name was changed to "Olive" by her teacher (the one I am named for). It was NOT a fair trade as far as I am concerned.
Now, I would have loved being named Katerzina. It is unusual, just like me.

I'd never heard the name Otilla, it's lovely. My grandmother was Susie, her mom was Mary-very common names, both of which I like. My dad's mom was Blanche. Neither my sister nor I were named after any them.

Grandma was Mallie, her sisters were Sessa, Lessie, Larmie, Delphia and darn it, I can't remember the fifth sister's name!
Grandma did better in giving out names. She had Paul, Rose, Virgie, Katherine, Samuel, Irene and Ivan.
On my dad's side, start with Cornelia and Charles, who had Jim, Marshall, Clen, Dewey, Robert, Ethel and Elizabeth.
Clen married Katherine and they had Hugh, Wendell, Grover, Carmen, Sherry and Donald.
I guess that's enough for now. By the way, one of our more famous historic figures in Richmond was Maggie LENA Walker.

Good old german names Liesbeth Ida, Uda Marie, Gunther and Deidrich. My mom was called Liesel for short and when grandma would call her in from the playground it sounded like weasel so that was her nickname and she hated it.
