Out of those, In Utero. Yeah, Nevermind brought grunge into the forefront and all the songs are considered classics, but I find In Utero to be a much more abrasive yet compelling album. From mellow moments to distortion-laden riffs, In Utero rivals Bleach for my favorite Nirvana disk.

Plus it has Tourette's, a syndrome that I was diagnosed with about 10 years ago although it's been apparent the vast majority of my life. Good stuff, that.

Well that's a ---- poor list to choose from
You have a Metallica album that's not Metallica
If You want REAL Metallica stick to Justice For All and before
A grunge album by the worst singer in rock history Eddie Cheeder
I'm serious I have heard howling dogs with much more vocal prowess that Eddie Vedder, the day He got down off that surfboard was a black black day for Rock.
Don buy Pearl Jam unless You are a masochist
The we come to the super uber cosmically overrated Nirvana
Don't waste your money those two albums suck.
Finally we have the self indulgent disintegration of Guns & Roses. Axl worked like a dog to make these two albums perfect..The result? Two albums which, between them were maybe maybe half as good as Appetite For Destruction.

You want My advice
You want to buy the BEST ALBUM Of 1991?
Then for God's Sake get
Alice In Chains-Facelift
OR
The Black Crowes-Shake Your Moneymaker
Two bands that have a singer that can, by gosh, actually sing.

I have all 5 of these albums in my collection and if I had a choice then I would choose The Black Album by Metallica. The reason for this is that I don't think it has dated nearly as much as the others and I also think that it changed the direction of the band themselves and made Metallica much more mainstream, although Nirvana would run this a close second.
The other 3 albums for me did not represent a significant change in style for the bands concerned as they were already well established , although Metallica did have a cult following at the time.

The Black Album by Metallica.

Reason 1: Metallica rule

Reason 2: It has Enter Sandman

Reason 3: Every track on the album is class

Reason 4: It will lead you to experience some other classic Metallica album

Reason 5: It has alot of diverse tracks, Enter Sandman & Sad But True the heaviest and Nothing Else Matters & The Unforgiven being the more melodic.

Get Metallica's Black Album because it is an absolute classic and will lead you into other great Metallica records. It is an album where every single track is stellar. There are no "filler" tracks and it is still one of the best produced records I have ever heard. Most bands can only hope to have an album as good or as successful in their careers. Metallica ROCK!

The other albums you have mentioned are good but not even in the same league as Black.

I'd say Nevermind or Ten, to really see the beginnings of grunge. I don't think Black Album would be bad either, but most Metallica fans hate it.

Just stay away from the GNR albums unless your a big fan. A lot of it is filler, and a lot of it sucks. If you expect something on par with Appetite, you will be severly dissapointed.

NEVERMIND. It's cheap, and it's simply an amazing album. If I composed a list of my favorite albums, it'd probably be number one. And Nirvana is not even my favorite band.
