I am from New Mexico and I need to know where I can start buying parts for a Harley. I dont have the money to buy one off the lot, so I decided to bulid my own. My dad and his buddys have been on me for a while to start putting one together, (thats how most of them got started back in the day) and I dont know where to find used parts,or even a non running bike to work with? everywhere I look all I can find is S&S, or some high dollar shiny crap, or new Harley parts. is there a type of swap meet on line or something. twice a year around here there is a bike week that you can buy stuff but I want to start looking now. Thanks for any advise. Im sick of staying home, or being the tail vehicle during runs.

Go over to Barnes and Noble ( or most bookstores) and sit down and go through all the magazines on Harley's. You will find sites on the Internet for all the parts from frames to custom stuff. You can order it from home and have it delivered. Most after market stuff is cheaper to purchase, and many of the businesses in the magazines will sell high quality stuff. I use JPCYCLE.com or DENNISKIRK.COM or SMITHCYCLE to name a few.
Good luck

Go look on Ebay....I found hundreds of parts for my bike...some old used parts...and a lot of them were new - old stock parts...new in box but 20 to 30 years old. You might even find a bike that is being sold for parts only.

Ebay is good. I get a lot of stuff for my panhead and flathead on there. You might try Wheelsport in Las Cruces or Roadrunner Cycle also in Cruces. I'm betting you are in or near Ruidoso?

Go on:wwwthehorsebc .com and try there.I would seriously consider a kit bike for your first build,or at least a rolling chassis.kinda takes all the guess work out of it .Lot easier to title that way too.
