family division, something like "today at 10.00 is Smith vs Johnson, tomorrow at 3.00 is Peterson vs Jims"? If so, where can one check them? Would they be available on-line?

There is the court docket -- which is the list of cases and hearings that will be heard during any given time-slot on any given day -- in many courts, several matters are set for the same time (say 9am) and are all heard in whatever order seems best during the 9am-noon time slot.

You can contact the clerk of the court to find out if a particular case or matter is pending on a particular docket -- or you can go to the court, and look at the dockets -- many courts even post them in front of each department (courtroom).
