I have a dilemma. My computer is in dire need of a GPU upgrade. Right now I am running an nVidia GeForce 7600 GS. It ain't bad, but with COD4, Crysis, etc. on the horizon, I really need to upgrade. Question is, should I wait for the Geforce 9 series coming out (supposedly) in November, or should I bite the bullet now and buy a 8800 (probably the GTX). Or should I wait for the 9 series, and hope the prices on the 8 series goes down (any speculation on how much the prices will decrease?) Thanks!

If you can wait, do so. No harm in waiting and like you said, either you get the series 9, or get a cheaper Series 8. I think I have heard maybe 9 would come out in Dec? but that might just be an if. Usually the 8 seres would start to drop in price, but maybe only $50 at first?
8 should be fine for at least another year. I bought the gts 8 this summer and it has worked great for me. So if you can wait do so. If not, (and I'm guessing not) then get the 8

The GeForce 9 series is NOT and never was going to be released in November, or December, or anytime in the near future. Everything written on the net about the GeForce 9 series coming out in November can be traced back to one original forum post, from a person who supposedly had a "source" from within nVidia. Well his source wasn't all too reliable, because what is being released in November is the 8800GT, which is right beneath the 8800GTS in November. Because the 9 series are not being released, the GTS and GTX will not be dropping in price either, so you might as well go ahead and buy now, unless you want to look at the 8800GT.

if you wait for the 9 series to come out they will cost just as much as the 8800 ultra does now, or more, if you get an 8 series afer the 9 series comes out they will most likely have dropped in price by a GREAT amount, so you can get 2 for say the price of one 9 series that may be more powerful than one 9 series, 8800's are VERY powerful, if i was you ide wait get a cheap 8800 or if you were planning on getting an 8800 ultra, wait anyway cause a 9 series is for you.
