Okay - about a week or so ago, Bettierage and Sookie asked about what songs should be MANDATORY in all bar jukeboxes and what songs should be BANNED from all bar jukeboxes.

Since we decided that this would be a fun bar to hang out in (dollar pitcher day, anyone?), and alcohol consumption leads to karaoke....

What songs should be REQUIRED karaoke singing, and what songs should be STRICKEN from karaoke catalogs everywhere? Doesn't matter if you can't sing a note - anything goes!

lovnrckets - so when I've had too many dollar pitchers, I can't belt out "Forever In Blue Jeans?" :)

Dave: When I was in college, one of the bars on campus had dollar pitcher day every Wednesday from 11am til bar closing (at 2am). I lost many good hours of my youth there, one dollar at a time. :)

It's easy to come up with the forbidden list.

Aretha Franklin - RESPECT
Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
Sweet Caroline - Neil Diamond - in fact, his entire catalog should be a felony.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
AC/DC - You Shook Me All Night Long

Sylvia - Sure you could "belt" it out, but Neil must be stopped at all costs.

Sookie - Get me some radioactive material and I'm all over that one.

MachPen - Great call on People Who Died. My only question, is Jim Carroll the father of Malachi?

Dollar Pitcher Time...woo-hoo! You know I'm up for that!

Banned: "It's The End Of The World As We Know It". People can't get that right when they're sober, and they still can't after a few drinks.

Required: almost anything by the Bee Gees. The falsetto can be quite comical.

Edit: lovnrckets - Sweet Caroline should be nuked.

Dani - Informer definitely has to go! Good call.

MachPen - Bohemian Rhapsody is awesome!

I once did a rousing rendition of In The Ghetto before two people in a absolute redneck town while drunk off my ***, but for the most part I don't recommend it as the song can be a buzzkill at times.

Stricken:

I'm Too Sexy (no no no)
Hotel California (hell no)

I'll always love you. No human being can sing that song propperly, unless you are non-human like Celine Dion, Maruiah Carey and Withney Houston.

I refuse to hear that song destroyed in a Karaoke, it just never turns out well.

Good luck

The Day The Music Died & Love Shack should be stricken. They're just too long. All other songs are fair game. I'm the karaoke queen. 2D
