I am currently 36 weeks pregnant and leaning toward a cesarean, due to the fact that I had an infection with my last cesarean and the increased risk of placental abruption.

I would have assumed they'd pay, but because they refused to pay on one of my ultrasounds (they say it was not medically necessary despite the doctor's order to have it done!), I'm wondering if they'll try to make us pay for a cesarean delivery.

If anyone has experience with this plan, please tell me what you know. I'm about to call them, but I'm interested in other experiences people may have had.

Its really best just to call them. I had them for insurance and they payed for everything that the doctor ordered. I had to have several "emergency" non-stress tests with my pregnancy and they were all covered.

Anything that I requested was out of my own pocket though.

If your doctor has denied you a VBAC (a vaginal birth after cesaerean) then a second surgery would be considered "medically necessary" and should be covered under Blue Cross.

However, if YOU are the one requesting the c-section, it might not be covered.

Just because there was a prior infection does not make a c-section necessary. And unless you have actually been diagnosed with placental abruption, then that would also be a factor.

I would definatly call Blue Cross and talk to them... If you have to have another c-section, I would assume they would pay for it... Also with one of the ultrasounds they didn't pay, did you ask for a review of it? Sometimes they don't see the necessity, but later realize it is and then pay for it... I would tell them that your doctor won't do a V-BAC and that you have to have another c-section and want to ensure they will pay.. Best of luck!

Maybe they didn't give you another ultra-sound because you can only get a certain amount.
Nevertheless, do call blue cross, have your questions ready for them. If you are not satisfied with their answer, call right back and speak with someone else. If you are not getting any positive responses ask to speak to their supervisor, and make sure you get the name of everybody you speak with.
Don't stress yourself out.....THE BABY.
