Why women have abortions
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient).
What are your suggestions? What will we do with all the unwanted babies?

Excellent post!
Brian- if all the women followed thru with their pregnancy the majority would end up keeping those children regardless whether or not they can afford them or even "want" them...that also sets up some potential life long welfare recipients.
People go overseas for many reasons.. one reason being it is easier to adopt from outside US. They may not qualify here...but they can certainly BUY a baby from overseas. It costs virtually NOTHING to adopt in the US. * I am referring to State agency adoptions b/c private adoptions in the US cost basically the same as overseas adoptions (which is roughly about 25,000, if not more).
All those couples wanting a child? Yet 100,000 plus children languish in US foster homes.
The guy who said EGGS are alive? LOL. I hope you plan on charging men too...you know when they "spill their seed". Sperm is alive too, shouldn't men be equally punished? And if that were the case.. every teenage boy would wind up in jail!

One instill morals on the children that sex has it consequences and abortion should be the very last resort.
Two instruct kids on all forms of birth control and risks of each.
Three setup adoption centers so that if the mother doesn't want to have a abortion be put up tell the baby is born than never to see the child again under any situation when the child is 18 than and only up to the child to know anything about the birth mother.
Four allow one abortion no questions ask the second one the mother has her tubes tie without question.
Five all minors must get parental approval or a judge and the case has to be made there was a rape envoled and charges have to be filed.
Six anyone taking a minor accross state lines will be charge with kidnapping and given the max sentence if found guilty.
Most of all value life that of the fetus that is a human being.

Okay to all the people saying not have sex, is that what you do? I mean really telling a woman to keep her legs closed? Oh Come ON! Show me a man who will keep his dick in his pants and I will show you a woman who will keep her legs closed. Who Cares, the answer to this question is there is no solution, abortions are vital and a woman's right. I it's mostly men who are against abortion. And the women that are against it are either strapped down w/ a whole bunch of kids that they don't want (when they should have had an abortion) and want company to go along w/ their misery OR they can't have children and feel that every fertile woman on the planet should reproduce so that they can live through her vicariously. Oh and the men I find they have what I like to refer to as the "God Complex" men sytematically control the world and the only thing they can't control is life and by making abortion ilegal they would then have control and because it is legal they are out of control. These ("pro-lifers") make me sick, I'm like what kind of life can you have w/o a choice! Go ahead thumbs me down, I see you!

I personally don't agree with the majority of the reasons of abortion. That's just an opinion I made on my own. (I know of couples that were unable to have their own children). One couple paid for all doctors visits and the stay of delivery of another couple that was giving their baby up for adoption. There is no one solution to abortion but there are alternatives like my friends that did the adoption. I wish adoption was more of an answer. I don't think that outlawing abortion will work, it'll just be a lot of people doing it illegally from doctors that know how to do it. This is a good non-biased question. It should have, however, been directed to both, pro-life and pro-choice. Not all pro-choicers will or have had an abortion. They might even have better solutions.
I am completely against partial-birth abortions in all cases but there are times, that you stated, where an abortion is almost certainly the only answer.

You said it yourself, "93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient)."
The solution? Adoption, people are spending tens of thousands of dollars and going over seas to find children to adopt. Holding the father to be equally responsible would go far to reduce the perceived need for abortion.
But the thing is, we're not looking for a solution. To many Americans, it would seem, abortion IS an answer, it IS a solution. THAT is the problem. Unwanted child? The solution is abortion. Let's move on. People have become desensitized to the reality that is abortion. The medival drawing and quartering of a human infant inutero. They've stopped looking for real solutions that would make abortion either rare or unnecessary.

Do you notice that a large majority of the answers are from men? That's right, the very gender that can and often does walk away from a mother and a child who either never hear from him again or never get any child support, all the while he is propagating all over the place.
For this reason, I don't think men have any right to be involved in the abortion discussion. When men have decided to step up to the plate like real men and take care of the children they have created, then they can contribute to the conversation.

Well the first step in solving this problem is to either not have sex in the first place or at least use some form of birth control.
Personally I feel that its a woman's right to do what she feels is in her best interest. If that means an abortion then so be it. The only abortions that I am opposed to are late term abortions. If you have carried a child for such a long period, then go ahead and finish the job and give the child up for adoption. There are plenty of couples in the US that can't have children for one reason or another and many of them are more than willing to adopt a baby.

Goes back to teaching 'family values', but then again liberals might cry 'we have come a long way, baby'. Personal responsibility is no longer taught in today's schools. Heck, to get kids to behave you have to reward them with 'tokens' (candy, prizes, ect.) Next, some moms in poverty have kid after kid. Welfare keeps paying the tab for most expenses. The life quality of a child, along with the cost and responsibility of a child, is just no longer regarded by many. Just keep popping them out, or just 'get rid of' your mistakes. The new vaccine for girls for HPV (that turns to cancer) is largely due to having sex w/ multiple partners. Instead of a vaccine, how about keeping 'it' for marriage? I am completely opposed to late-term abortions. 1st of all, you should know if you are pregnant by then. 2nd of all, the baby IS viable out of the womb, 3rd you still must go through labor and delivery to have the child. You kill the baby before delivery. So then, how is this 'helping' a mom who's life is at-risk? she still can have the child by the same procedure as the abortion, except you do not kill the baby in utero, and the child may have a chance at life.

Awareness, sex with responsability. THAT'S NOT ONLY FOR THE WOMEN, for usually men do not worry much about that matter for they don't get pregnant, but they should, for abortion is no good for both the fetus and the mother.

IT's all about values and morals. I knew the majority of abortions were because of "social reasons" but I didn't realize it was THAT high.
It is all too easy to ignore the fact that when you conceive and become pregnant, that the little problem inside of you is actually a life. We have a couple of generations of women now that have been taught that there is always an option in case of a "mistake." Instead, we need to be teaching our girls about family values and the importance of not only being responsible for your actions, but even in the instance of an accident, motherhood should be embraced.
