Actually, ferrets don't catch the common cold. They can, however, get bacterial sinus infections, the flu, and upper-respiratory infections which can mimic cold-like signs.

I'm not sure about lysine for ferrets, check with your vet on that one.

If your ferret has the flu, usually just a little TLC is all it takes to get your ferret through it. Just make sure he's drinking plenty of water and keep an eye on his food bowl - you want to make sure he's still eating. If his cold-like symptoms last more than a week, get him to a vet. More severe bouts of the flu sometimes require antibiotics. Or you could even be dealing with something other than the flu.

Lysine may not do anything for that. Call a vet, ask about holistic treatments. I know lysine is ok for cats and dogs, it should be ok for ferrets as well, but it's mostly to help the eyes, not the nose.

Please do not give your ferret anything that was not prescribed by a vet!! Why do you think your ferret has a cold? Does your ferret have any discharge from its eyes or nose?

Most likely your ferret has a hairball or is living in a dusty environment. Please treat the situation accordingly.

If you do suspect your ferret is sick the right thing to do is see a vet. If there are any medicines needed the vet will prescribe you a safe one.
