Do you own an 01-03 Chrysler PT Cruiser?

Question

I am car shopping, and want to hear about your real experiences with this car, do you like it, and why, do you have problems with it, what sort, would you buy it again? Thank you in advance.......

UCANTCME: I don't consider that a disrespectful answer, I am looking for honest opinions from people that are familiar with this vehicle to help me in my car shopping, I see that you are a mechanic, and your professional opinion on this car would be appreciated, if you would care to elaborate?

i am a chrysler serv advisor. the car is not junk. basically the car is built on a neon frame..the car is overall sound mechanically. the only problem ive had with the car is lower control arm bushings. they go out quicker than most cars..not a cheap repair. if ya dont mind that concern then the p.t overall is o.k.. i see a lot of chrysler cars/dodge trucks every day. this car is better than most g.m. cars..

Not really, it depends on what you're looking for in a vehicle. Personally, I'd like to have one. Even though I can be classed as an old person, I'm in my mid 50's, it would still be fun to get one and modify it to my taste. By the way the Last PT rolls off the line this summer. Chrysler hasn't made the official announcement yet but they're not the biggest seller from Mopar.

i have an 01, over 100, 000 miles on it -- 55,000 when we bought it 3 yrs ago. we've had some problems, not what i might call major, although repairs are not cheap, as someone else stated

it doesn't really look all that big, but there is LOTS of room inside, for both backseat passengers and for hauling stuff...my very-long-legged son fits in the back very comfortably without having his knees jammed up his nose even with the front seat set back, and if you fold down or remove the back seats, there's lots of room for loading it up

it was fun at first to drive something that looked different than all the other cars on the road, but now there are too many 'wannabees' out there

it doesn't get great gas mileage, mine averages maybe 20-22 which sucks in my opinion

i wouldn't buy another one

We had an '03 PT Turbo, which we traded for a '05 Jeep after moving from Oklahoma to Minnesota.

It was fun and very fast car, but not good in the winter. Non-turbo PTs do fairly well in the winter, due to their narrower tires, and more ground clearance.

Recently, we have become very interested in off-roading, and thus would not buy another. For a road car it was a nice vehicle.

I have an 01 with about 93k miles on it. Have had only one real problem, when the shifter cable snapped...road salt and junk got into the braided cable and it swelled and got harder and harder to shift and then it finally snapped. Nothing wrong with transmission as I had feared. Fairly cheap part but expensive labor as it is hard to get at and so much had to be taken apart.
Other than that, regular maintenance (tune-up's, etc) have kept it running great.
No regrets here.

I own a PT Cruiser 01 and it drives fine just needs occasional normal maintenance and I am a big driving person I have 66,000 miles on mine and my baby is still going strong........ Forget all the haters who say this is a junk car i absolutely have no complaints with mine and it's good on gas!!!

Buy a Volswagen Jetta, they're fast, fun, get good gas mileage, cheap to repair, and run forever.

NOT TO SOUND DISRESPECTFUL BUT I HAVE WORKED ON A LOT OF THESE VEHICLE AND FOR THE MOST PART THEY ARE A COMPLETE PIECE OF JUNK.
