In England where i live it is standard practice for all schools to have a uniform, very few do not. i think it is goo, because we all want to rebel slightly, to rebel i just wear wristbands and a cool jacket, as opposed to a school wear there is no uniform and a more serious rule must be broken to do this.

Is this a survey?
Are you talking about public schools or private?
Have you done research on the actual research that's out there about the benefits/drawbacks of school uniforms? You'll have to validate the opinions that people give here unless you're allowed to use the opinions of a bunch of strangers on the internet to support an argument (doubtful - you usually need to support an argument with valid data).
If we're talking about public schools, it should be a voluntary option. Private schools can do whatever they want -- they are privately funded.
There is no reliable data to substantiate any of the arguments that say things like "kids will be less mean" or "it's more affordable" etc...
And by the way -- if a school needs a dress code, they should make and enforce a dress code. No need to force uniforms on everyone to solve the gang stuff. And, in any case, gang problems are much bigger and far more complex than what those kids wear to school. Using uniforms to "solve" that is like putting a bandaid on the Hoover dam when it has a leak.

There are some advantages of school uniforms;
1- Makes all the student a part of a whole
2- It makes invisibelity about financial situation of the students, so you can hide poor or high studens in school society
3- It makes easy to order discipline (authority)
Some disadvantages of school uniforms;
1- It can make the students impersonalize (All students can feel themseves 'ordinary')
2- It cant be easy to buy a uniform for lots of family (financially)
3- For student, after a while, wearing a school uniform can be boring :)
I hope I could help, good luck

I believe they should. I did for first six years I was in school and it didn't matter to me that I had to wear one. If kids knew how to dress properly there wouldn't be a need for uniforms. However they don't so the need is there. Plus there is a savings in the long run to parents when children wear uniforms. No worry of having to buy the designer jeans or blouses etc. Same goes for shoes. After high school hey go for it wear what ever your little heart wants. Not to mention that all children can be seen the same not who wears the most expensive outfit. Its more important to learn academics then who is wearing what at school.

No, they shouldn't have to wear uniforms, because there clothes show there creativity as well as personality. People want to be different in there own little way. When I was school it was cool to have red hair, I didn't like it and didn't want to wear it so I decided to get purple. Now, the argument is that if everyone wears uniforms it will be cheaper as well as less distracting to the students. But, at the same time money spent on clothes is none of the school's business. The second thing is that not once have someone clothes distacted me from learning. Discipine is what needs to be taught, that way each student will learn that when it's time to learn it is time to learn. When it time to socialize it is time to socialize. If students are picked on there clothes that will happen wheather they wear uniforms of not. WHY? Because the brand that the parents allow the child to wear. If the uniform is a white shirt and blue dress pants, than one mother might buy her child all name brand white shirts and blue dress pants, while another mother may buy k-mart white shirts and blue dress pants. It can't be stopped though, because at the school games children will be allowed to wear what they want, and you will see who has the best clothes, and the not so best clothes on there.

Although I am the kind of person who has always dressed contrary to popular style, I am now a firm believer that students SHOULD wear school uniforms. It would erase the peer pressure and desire to dress at the highest level of fashion, which is frequently the lowest level of taste. Fashion trends that are not intended for schol students (bare midriffs, low-cut tops, and loud, flashy outfits) would not come into play if uniforms were the rule. Finally, the "uniformity" of school uniforms would lessen the expense as well as the amount of distractions that the current Race for the Raciest tends to produce.

I think wearing school uniform is a great idea. I wish it was mandatory. It is great both for student and parents. Parents would probably spend less money on uniforms than regular close. Student on other hand will spend more time on their homework and other school stuff than thinking about what to wear and what their friend is wearing. Every body will look the same, and if a parent can’t afford buying brand name close the kid won’t be embarrassed at school in front of his/her friends.

Yes, they should. It helps eliminate a few of the problems associated with clothing as status symbols, and the inherent competition. Of course it still goes on, but it is a step in the right direction. They can be expressive on other ways, so that argument is not valid. Also, as a teacher, I have noticed behaviour degrades exponentially on days when students are not in uniform. They become much more 'street' in their attitude and behaviour. If it was up to me, they could only wear street clothes on some school outings, like the kind where they might get dirty. Even the day before breaks and Christmas, they should be in uniform.

I think that kids should not wear uniforms because they can pick out their own clothes which allows them to be independent. And it allows some artistic freedom with what they choose. But on the other hand school uniforms are a good idea because it gives structure. And it doesn't establish levels like kids who wear abercrombie or hollister. You could go either way. Hope this helped.

I am long graduated from school, did not have to wear a school uniform while in school (except for band uniform or sports uniform) nor do I have children all I can say is from the experience of driving past schools before and after school uniforms were required here in San Antonio----------And I think they are fantastic. Before manditory uniforms (which might be as simple as a solid shirt and khaki pants) the kids looked like thugs. Same school with uniforms-----the kids looked SO MUCH BETTER. After you graduate you have your whole life to dress how ever you would like so, for 12 years it won't kill you to dress "like everyone else". After school you can dress your own way. Its much easier to get ready for school when u have just certain items or colors you can wear. Easier for laundry(and mom or working mom) besides, when you get into the work force....many. many jobs have a uniform.
