After the Hurricanes in 2005 and the evacuations there were efforts to track the movements of the displaced persons. However, the government found record keeping impossible. The Bureau of Labor Statistics tried to keep unemploment numbers, and to track the Katrina and Rita evacuees specifically. They requested they respond with their status monthly. SOme months Katrina evacuees were on the list one month, off the next and back on the next. Sometimes they switched which Hurricane they were evacuated from, and it was found many were counted more than once. The federal government stopped tracking in 2006, but have offered relocation funds for those persons wishing to move back to their home of origin. In the end we will probably only have rough estimates and no exact numbers, the numbers will probably be based on FEMA claims for relocation reimbursement. Even those numbers will take a while, because there will be some people placing false claims stating they moved from areas requiring more money than they actually moved. Not all people are completely honest.

And Samuel...thank you for asking a different question!

Sammi I like JD am glad that you are asking a real question. I have not read any statistics but there was a few houses in my neighborhood that had some staying there all have since left. I also have met some that came with the bad weather and have stayed. I haven't seen a real increase in crime because of the folks that came here, but I am sure that some of them were up to no good. I feel like most of them have left our fair city and have headed back to their homes or what was left of them. I am thankful that this didn't happen to San Antonio. Good question and here is a star

I know that the people who came to Granbury, Tx during the aftermath, have left. Whether they went back to their homes or to new places, I don't know. This is an excellent question and I gave you a star!
