Both are essential to a woman's health and both work in harmony during your cycles. However, if estrogen becomes dominant over progesterone, havoc can ensue.

Many forms of hormonal birth control contain both hormones. The hormones work together to:

1. Block ovulation (release of an egg from the ovaries)
2. Altering mucus in the cervix, which makes it hard for sperm to travel further
3. Changing the endometrium (lining of the uterus) so that it cannot support a fertilized egg

The third mechanism described above is ABORTIVE when it happens, which most women are unaware of!

There are some progesterone-only pills also known as "mini-pills" but they are not widely used - mostly by women who cannot take estrogen for health reasons or who are breastfeeding.

Hormonal birth control has many proven side effects and health risks and has lately been linked to breast cancer. In addition, as described above, it can act as an abortifacient and kill a tiny human being.

Have you considered a natural method like NFP? It is 99% effective when used correctly. Google it!
