It wasnt your fault? It's his is it?
You were greedy and thought you'ed get a few buck's that you shouldn't have gotten from the the tax man.
Well we are the people that paid that tax money you robbed.we should feel sorry for you. I don't think so.
this creep took you to the cleaners due to your greed.you wanted to rob and got robbed. That's how cons work. It's all about the so called victims greed.
Seem's to me, now you will get your due.
better work it out with the police as thats the only way you'll get of the hook a bit.You will get some punishment.Good Luck.

You can fight it or pay it. Fighting it will cost you much more. Talk to someone at the IRS, make a deal with the government not to have you pay the penalties. If you have proof of what you are stating..I wonder, is it even legal to file taxes with a friend? You may have to pay something. Here's the worse case scenario:
A friend of mine divorced her husband, and they had a home business. He embezzled money she knew nothing about and had to pay $60,000.00 in back taxes. He ex disappeared. She did it, but it took her awhile. So, look on the bright side. Thank goodness it isn't more!

Get a lawyer.
Go to the IRS office and meet with an onsite IRS agent. They can help to resolve this. It will entail some paperwork, and you may have to pay a small fine, but you can clear this up quickly.

Well, allowing someone to claim you on their taxes is tax fraud, so you're lucky that all you're being charged is the money, and not with a crime. The fact that he wasn't who he said he was doesn't matter, as you knew him and let him do it.

That doesn't make sense. Did you sign the return? Who is saying you owe $8K? Call the IRS. You MUST get this fixed.
BTW, never do this again. Sorry but you were really dumb to do this.

I agree with Stiggo: consider yourself lucky that you'll only be faced with a fine and not jail time.

What you did was illegal (tax fraud). The fact that what he did was also illegal is not going to help you much. Contact a lawyer NOW.
