I know they were used on the aircraft that sank the Japanese battleship Yamato, but when did they first get used?

They were used 1st on P-51 Mustangs and P-47 Thunderbolts in the Europeans Theater of war over France and Germany in the Fall of 1944. These were called rockets not missles and were sighted through a gun sight like used for the machine guns in the cockpit. They had no guidance system of their own. They were mounted 4 under each wing for a total of 8 along with the machine guns. Then the were used in the Pacific Theater in 1945. They were Air to Ground Rockets used in Europe to destroy Locomotives or tanks and stationary targets. They were not Air to Air

This is news to me. We didn't have rocket technology then, we got it from the German scientists we captured after the war.

If that, what you say is true, then it was a technology that we were in the process of trying.

Can you put in more details and the proof of what you said.

1944. They wern't very acurate or powerful though
