No, you absolutely need to have a carseat... it's the law. If you get stopped, you will get fined. It's just like not wearing a seat belt. Try to find a used carseat on Craigs List if you are having trouble affording one.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean, but if you're talking about a carrier/car seat combo, yes, that's fine. You'll bring the carrier in and strap baby in and then use it to carry the baby out to the car, where the carrier will snap into the base.

Some hospitals will make you take a wheel chair out but some don't (I walked).

After reading this question and your earlier question I am wondering if you are driving home from the hospital/getting a ride, or do you live in an area where you could walk home? If your going to walk home then you could probably carry the baby in the carrier, if your going to be driving a car/passenger in a car you've got to have a car seat. You should call the hospital you are going to deliver at for info on what they require, you dont want to be surprised the day you are going to go home.

The nurse who releases you will check your baby's travel accommodations before you leave the hospital. He/she will come out to the car and be sure you have strapped the car seat in correctly and show you the best way to be safe. If you are walking the carrier should be fine. Most carriers are car seats as well so you should be fine in the car as well. Good luck with the baby and congratulations!

I think that almost all baby carriers are car seats now days. If you dont have a proper one the hospital will provide one for you. (atleast they do around here ) But the hospital will fit the baby for the car seat as well.

I don't think the hospital will let you leave unless you have a proper carseat. I think they have them at the hospital and they will tack a small fee onto your hospital bill to cover it ($25-$50 I think).

Good luck! :)

P.S. If you're all alone, please tell someone at the hospital. They can get you some help!!!

Go to Wal-Mart, they have the type of permanent car seat that comes out once it's put in place, the seat itself locks into it and, comes out for carrying. They're only about $60.00 bucks.

Fine if you're walking. Always a carseat in a car, better safe than sorry, Btw, it's the LAW.

Most hospitals won't let you leave with your baby unless you have a carseat.
