Because it was Clinton's fault.

Because the whole thing about Dubya being AWOL from the National Guard for 8 weeks was completely false trumped-up liberal propaganda that Dan Rather tried to sell to the American public as FACT. He ran the story despite the fact that none of the document analysis experts who examined his so-called "proof" would guarantee their authenticity. In fact, he was told straight-up by at least two of them that the documents appeared to have been forged. Nevertheless, in a blatant attempt to discredit a Presidential candidate, Dan Rather violated virtually every canon of journalistic integrity and tried to smear the reputation of George W. Bush.

P.S.: If Dubya had been gone for more than 30 days he wouldn't have been AWOL -- he would have been in deserter status and they would have dragged him back to face court-martial action.

Because he was not AWOL. Those that served with him (both democrat and republican) vouched for his whereabouts during those 8 weeks, falsifying the claims that he was ever AWOL. This rumor was debunked during elections, why bring it up now? With all the other things Bush does that people do not agree with, his being AWOL would have to be the weakest claim.

His commanding officer couldn't locate Bush to serve the papers. Then the Vietnam war started winding down and AWOL/Deseration cases like those of George Bush weren't pursued by the government.

To those still defending Bush, there's still reward money available from two veterans organizations for anyone who can prove George Bush ever reported for duty with the Alabama National Guard. To date, not a single person has come forward with evidence.

Hello Mr. Rather.

Although I never really cared for you as a CBS news anchor, I do, indeed appreciate your steadfast, if not obviously misguided, persistence on this thoroughly debunked issue.

And yes, please give me fries with that.

Maybe because he wasn't AWOL, Dan. Didn't you already lose your job over this?
