So basically you're saying you want to criminalise 30% of the UK population who enjoy smoking responsibly. Why? Typical health fascist and if you even have to ask the question I'm not going to waste my time trying to educate you suffice to say I hope you never use a car or public transport, or drink alcohol, or eat meat, have sex, or do anything else that's in the slightest bit enjoyable...

We all know how damaging cigarettes are to smokers and those around them but I feel your question is a little short sighted. Are you saying that the little old 89 year old woman that is addicted to cigarettes should be thrown into prison for continuing her habit? I could give many other examples like this. Also, where do you think the government would get the revenue lost on the sales of cigarettes? Perhaps we could impose an extortionate tax on chocolate or something?
I also ask you, do you drink alcohol? This is also an addictive drug that can kill so should that not be made illegal? I know, let's stop everyone from driving because we know that people die in car accidents. What about banning Winter because we also know that many old folk die in cold weather..............................

they aint been made illegal cause d goverment are makin 2 much money off of em.....and its like anything else, i mean pot is illegal but its still widely available, just because something is outlawed it doesnt mean people wont be able to get there hands on it, at least this way the government can make a profit out of our stupidity. and what safety tests are you talking about exactly? i mean drinkin 2 much alchohol damages d liver so why dont we can alcohol? taking 2 many panadol makes us more lickly to bot be able to fight of serious diseases, so should we ban over d counter drugs? guns are the worst of all, they kill people a hell of a lot quicker den smoking, so why not ban guns?

So politicians would automatically cease to be corrupt if cigarettes were banned?
How about banning alcohol? That causes liver damage, can cause blood poisoning, has and does cause numerous road accidents resulting in death of innocents.
If you were PM, I'd like to think you'd concentrate on more important issues than banning cigarettes.

I am an ex-smoker of over 30 years and people who try to bring this sort of thing onto the statute book are almost enough to get me smoking again. I think various methods have been tried before and all have failed. I don't think they allow transportation to the colonies these days. To hang draw and quarter is considered to be a cruel sport these days. So perhaps you would suggest a way of enforcing another ridiculous law

Just as well you are not PM then!Do you drive a car? Are you aware of what exhaust fumes throw out and what health damage it does? Why not ban cars? Exhaust fumes are extremely dangerous and can seriously injure and even kill people who are exposed. Exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide, which is regarded as the commonest single cause of poisoning in both industry and the home.
Carbon monoxide is produced by internal combustion engines (eg cars, trucks, forklifts), gas heaters, furnaces, kilns and other equipment, as well as in some manufacturing processes. There are many, many things in our daily life that will/is/can kill us,need I go on?

A tough one and I am a smoker. What about the tax money they raise, they help relieve stress too (I wait for the comments about that one) but as you say there is plenty of bad stuff too, but there is also plenty of bad stuff to do with drinking too much - should all alcohol be banned??. When I smoke alot I don't go and kick someones head in or sleep with a total stranger or puke in someones garden or assult a policeman. I am on the fence with this one.

And they should ban sugar, too. It has no nutritional value whatsoever, causes a host of health and dental problems - not to mention being a leading factor in the rise of obesity - the leading public health concern these days.
Then, we'll outlaw bacon.

so you guys like sucking on fags over there eh? As long as people smoke them the ciggy companies will pour money into the polititionas pockets to keep business as usual. If the US would only legalize pot, now that's a progressive idea!

Just means they're go the same way as drugs. They'll get in somehow and drive the price up.
I would agree as well but I honestly think it won't work.
Should beer, lager, spirits and wine be banned as well? Plenty of health problems from that as well !!!
