Here is a map of the downtown area and the business and attractions in the area. There are a lot of bars/clubs down on the landing. You can walk from one to another.
Check out this page and scroll down to the bottom to something you are interested in and it will link you to the homepage of that bar or whatever else you want to check out

Hope this helps and have fun!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The closest bars to you will be those on Laclede's Landing. Morgan Street is one of the better bars in that area - and offers both a pub/bar feel, and a dancing/nightclubby vibe in a separate part of the bar. Many of the other bars on the Landing are either kitschy (Big Bang) or a little trashy (Trainwreck).

If you're up for it, I would recommend catching a short cab ride over to Washington Street, or the near north-side area and eating/drinking over there.

Without knowing the bar scenes you prefer, I would recommend checking out the following:

-Lucas Park (1234 Washington Ave) - great crowd, attractive people, good drinks - in a good area where you can bar hop

-The Schlafly Tap Room (2100 Locust Street) - a little further North, but worth the trip. Schlafly is a St. Louis micro-brewer that has gained in prominence in recent years. Great beer, great food (definitely get the fries), and a cool atmosphere.

-Mosaic (1101 Lucas Ave) - for food only, though you could grab a drink there too. Great tapas, a little pricier, but worth it.

Lastly, if you're by the stadiums on the /eastern/northern part of the downtown area, and, if you like Thai food - I recommend Sen Thai (1221 Locust St) - it's about 8-10 blocks from the Edward Jones dome, and offers some great ethnic fare.

I agree with the person before me. Tap Room is awesome. Also, if you go down to the Landing, go to the Big Bang. It's a really sweet piano bar and you will have a seriously good time. It might sound kind of lame, but it is really upbeat and interactive.

Head down to Laclede's Landing. That's the closest area to party in. If you dont mind a short cab ride, the Soulard area is another fun place. I would suggest one night at the landing and one night in Soulard to get a more varied experience.
