b/g = 13/10
b/230 = 13/10
10b = 230 * 13
b = 230 * 13 / 10 = 23 * 13 =
b = 299

This is a RATIO problem, so multiplying 230 by 10/13 is completely wrong.
Proof:
10 girls /13 boys = 0.76923077
230 girls /177 boys = 1.29943502
230 girls/ 299 boys = 0.76923077
10/13 = 230/299.
Now here's how you do it:
start with an equation like this (it's easier if you have the horizontal division bar between the 10 & 13 and the 230 & x):
10/13 = 230/x
then you cross multiply 10 & x and 13 & 230 so you get:
10x = 2990
divide by 10 to get x:
x = 299
Hope that helps =]

A ratio is ver resembling a fragment. the 1st ingredient you may do is upload the two ratios (7+10) and you may get 17. 17 is the denominator. because of the fact it says boys to ladies. the 7 represents the lads and the ten represents the girls folk. So it would be Boys = 7/17, ladies = 10/17 to discover the no. of boys you multiply 357 via 7/17 and you may get 147 boys. answer = 147 boys

Yahoo answers is not the right way to solve school homework(even if you are going to thumbs down me). One sure thing I do know is that if you work on your maths exercise book more often you would save time for more diffcult/befitting questions.
