Do you ever not answer a question based on poor grammar and horrific spelling?

I think that Answers is for everyone regardless of age or nationality. Some people can't use proper grammar because they do not possess the skills. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to ask or answer questions.
People should not be harassed. It is petty to do so. Askers want advice, not a lecture.

Poor grammar and bad spelling have the same effect on me as waving a red flag at a bull. I usually answer the question and point out the error, too. Just a pet peeve of mine, I guess. I figure there is just no reasonable excuse for displaying ignorance, other than to serve as a qualifier in the gene pool.

BTW, did you catch the grammar error in msmonroe's response?

Most definitely. I feel that grammar is very representative of the person. If they're using bad grammar or awful abbreviations, then I find it lazy. I realize that not everyone is great at grammar, but it's so obvious when one disregards it or doesn't even use the Yahoo Answers spell check. Sometimes I'll make a comment about it but most of the time I don't even mess with the question because how can they understand what I'm saying if they can't use proper grammar in asking their question????

No, I love grammar, even bad grammar.

And yes, but usually only if it's relevant to the question or I just don't understand at all, especially if it's clear the person is a native speaker.

Nope, actually I often spell things wrong and put sentences together wrong myself. Just because someone doesnt have the best grammer doesnt mean they dont deserve and answer.

Absolutely not.

After all, by what authority or rule book is the English language defined.

Last time I checked it had no rule book. Just masses of opinions on what it should be.
