Most people do not understand Murphy's law. It is not bad things are going to happen. It is if there is a way that something can be done wrong then eventually it will be done wrong. Any good engineer will keep this in the back of his/her mind when designing something that people will be using. Designing a plug so that it can only be plugged in the correct way is an application of Murphy's law. The idea was to design a product that cannot be used incorrectly which will make it impossible to use it incorrectly.
