What are the rarest pokemon cards at the moment that every kid wants?

I'm trying to buy some for son but don't understand the game so don't know which cards to get from ebay.

Go to a well-stocked book store or magazine stand and spend an extra $5 on a Becketts Pokemon magazine, or go online:

Becketts is the recognized leader in trading card prices.

The most rare cards (not the best to use in gameplay, though) are Pokemon (as in the creatures) cards with a star next to their name. IF you look up Metagross "star" and normal Metagross, you'll see that Metagross "star" has a different color scheme in the picture. Here's Mew star: http://i16.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/a1/ba/f565_1_b.JPG and here's normal mew: http://i12.ebayimg.com/04/i/000/8b/37/4544_1_b.JPG
However, there is one REALLY rare card that many do not know of, It is ancient mew. It is all in symbols, and is legal in play in some places. There are very few copies remaining. Here is a picture: http://www.wakaba.net/images2/AincientMew.jpg
If you want rare, get this, if you want cool, get a "star".
There are also some special pikachu like Your Pikachu and Birthday Pikachu, but I like Ancient Mew better.
