Ok here is the thing. I'm 20. Just got married. I'm SO happy! But I'm 5'1, weight 101 pounds. I have seriously had people guess my age and think I was 13. The people at wal-mart almost didn't let me buy a PG13 movie and they CARD me if I want to buy a rated R one. I know people say I will appreciate it one day, but I don't now! How can I make myself look older (makeup, hair, clothes, ANYTHING!!!). It is just getting old, because its like people aren't taking me seriously!

OK. Yes I will like this one day but I don't RIGHT NOW. So what hairstyles, or makeup tips does anyone have?

I had the same issue for years and am also petite like you. Good thing is I'm now 35 and most people think I'm in my early 20's :)

What you need to do:

1. Wear makeup that accentuates either your eyes or lips (whichever is your best feature). But don't ignore one or the other (More eyeliner-soft lipgloss OR Dark lipstick - light eyeliner with mascara.

2. Wear clothing that accentuates your petite figure. Too loose makes you look younger. Wear more form-fitting (but not tacky or too tight!!) outfits. Sophisticated yet youthful (try shopping at Express or Victoria's Secret online - they have attractive clothing.

3. Hair. Pick a hairstyle (not just ponytails or plain straight). Look at celebrity hairstyles to see if you like one and whether it will work for your hair or go to a hair salon for some help.

Just another idea - find a celebrity who has the type of look you want to project and model your style choices after them.

A lot of asnwers here. A lot of STUPID answers here. From "just be grateful" to "wear the makeup older women wear to look younger, it'll have the opposite effect on you". YEAH, RIGHT. Clueless.

I'm 42 and my wife is an absolute hottie at 49 years old (5'5" and 115 lbs).

So, how do you look older?
1.) Don't dress as though you're 18 anymore. Don't even make subtle attempts to emulate the "kids" in high school today. When you're able to wear clothes you enjoy that have NOTHING to do with trends, television, movies, advertisements or magazines, then you're beginning to get the picture. We, who are older, couldn't care LESS about what is being worn by Britney Spears or Mary-Kate & Ashley, or Kate Hudson (or anyone else who shows up on the Yahoo! Red Carpet). We wear what we wear because it fits and it's comfortable and it's durable and it's affordable.

2.) Do some serious research into the difference between the makeup styles of younger people who emulate Avril Lavigne and the styles of somewhat older people who like Catherine Zeta-Jones or Angelina Jolie. What's the difference? Why does one look young and one not?

What you're asking seems mostly external. How do people "view" me? SO, look in the mirror and see how you view yourself.

And remember, one day, when you're no longer "carded" for buying booze or getting into a club, there ABSOLUTELY WILL come a time when will you wonder why the 25 year old's of the opposite sex no longer give you a second glance.

And you'll wistfully watch them walk by and wish you were that young again, but knowing what you know now.

How To Look Older

My aunt had a friend(I'm 13, btw) and she was around ur height and whatnot. We went to a family thing and everyone thought that the chick was my friend and not my(31) year old aunts. Part of it had to do with the fact that she was so small. She had anorexia so...yea. But with that aside, wearing high heels made her look quite a bit older. Wearing makeup that complented her skin tone(she had dark skin, so purples and golds were good). If you have fair skin- Pinks and pastels. Beige-golds and earthy-ish tones. Golden-Golden(duurr lol), medium-ish colored purples and blues. And I already covered dark skin.

I have the same problem. I'm 24 and people always think I'm in high school. And I hate it when people say you'll love it when you're older. If you really want to see a difference I think hair is best thing to do. Go to your hairdresser and explain what you want and she can do something for you. The problem is that you have to keep up with - the hair, the makeup, the clothes - and if it's not really you then it's not going to last.

The main thing that makes a person look older is maturity. Do not put on make-up, that actually makes people look uglier in the long run.

Depending on where you work, maybe you should wear more business attire-style clothes. Hair style is also a major factor in how people judge your age. Ask your hair dresser for a more age appropriate cut.

And you think that is a problem? Enjoy it while you can. I was the opposite, my hair turned white at age 18, (family trait) and have always been taken to be older than I am. Just act your age, if people take you for a younger person, go along with it and laugh.

Start smoking, that'll work like a charm.
It will, but don't do that. Just dress even older than you are, no belly shirts and coin slot jeans.
I'm just a old looking guy though.

And this too shall pass.

Stay out in the sun alot, have a few kids, get a stressful job. You'll look older in no time.
