I wasn't horrified with our middle grandsons' name, but I sure
was shocked. Our daughter chose Jake, not Jacob. Because
she didn't want anyone calling him Jacob. So she chose
the nickname instead. It seemed like such a big name for
such a little baby. Even one big for his newborn status. He's
grown by more leaps than bounds and now towers over his
grandpa and stepfather. He's 6ft 2in and is over 200 lbs. He's
a big young man who doesn't look his 14 years. He looks
more like 17. So he's more than filled the shoes of his name
or namesake, when you think of the movie with John Wayne,
called, Big Jake. Oh, he was given the middle name of
Morgan. As in the pirate Capt. Morgan. So when our daughter has gotten mad at him, she calls him by his full name. And the two seem to really be big names together. But as I can see, he'll be big in stature as well as in name.

My grandchildren's names are not too bad Timothy, Erin, Flynn, Riley, Toby and Jake, but when I hear the names some call their kid's I could cringe. I heard a little boy called Alloishus, and his sister was called Ursula.I also heard thadius, who has a sister called petronella, and then we have the awful "council house estate" or "trailer trash" names, Shannon Jade, Wesley, Jason, Kyle, Kylie, Keira, and (sorry)Whitney, Riley, Bailey. Whatever happened to ordinary, but nice names?

I must admit when My eldest Daughter had my Granddaughter and announced she was calling her Ashleigh, I was very upset just for the fact it sounded like a boys name and she would be taunted terribly when she started school, but thankfully, she is now sixteen and never en counted any problems, other than that I was very happy with the choice of names my other children gave theirs,Thomas, Samuel, Bethany, William and Alycia

Yes!!! My daughter has a Greek husband and they live in Athens and it is the tradition to name the children after their grandparents or close family. My twin grandsons are called Christophoros and Geronimos and my little grandaughter is Constantina but had permission from her other grandmother to call her Marianina which is very pretty! I see them once a year but it is quite a mouthful calling them by those names!!!

Before they were born, my grandchildren were doomed to be known by some weird and not very wonderful names. I admit to breathing an enormous sigh of relief after they were born and each given good old standard names that have stood the test of time.

I have a 3 month old great grandchild through marriage and they have named her Kadence.

I'm quite sure she will pick up the name in grade school of being called dense.

Not good for what other kids will put her through.

Thanks for the question.

I like all my grands names but my mother didn't like my two oldest childrens middle names. I named them for very elderly relatives and no the names were not modern or popular but they were a remembrance. My son's middle name is Reuben and my daughters is Adale and these were for people born in the ealy 1900's.

I know what you mean. 14 years ago when my daughter named my granddaughter Mackenzie, I said that's such a big name for such a little person. Besides that, I hadn't ever heard the name besides a lake, that had the name.
