An American Democratic or Republican president, new weapons--Israel,---the U.N.,--- Islam, or none of these.

No President, Republican or Democrat, can hope to bring peace to the Middle East.
New weapons intimidate for a while, but since Israel has nuclear capabilities, that does not seem to stop fighting.
Israel? That is a sore spot in the side of the region, hardly a stabilizing force.
The U.N. is simply unable to accomplish something of this nature.
Islam is too fractured a religion to accomplish this. Many think Islam is Shia and Sunni, but there is much more to it than that. There will always be a militant wing to Islam that wants to control the world, just as there have been militant wings of Christianity (think David Koresh).
So, I guess none of these is the answer as I see it.

There won't be peace in the Middle East until they get tired of killing each other and work for their own reform... same as had to happen in Europe.... so why do we have to be such a large part of the process is my question? Sure... help out the little guy that wants nothing to do with it... but as for the major players in the Middle East.... let them duke it out. Nothing we have done has stopped this over the past thousand years or so... nothing we can do to stop it in the future either. It just has to be done.

WHAT!!! Think 1st - you are what we in the political arena call a blithering lying idiot. Name one war you commucrats won without having your arm twisted off. Well....we're waiting. Thought so. NONE! WWII was won because you commucrats could not force us to lose and if you had made it difficult, your cult political party would have been run out of America like your sister party the communist. We now know from the Venona Project files that your cherished president FDR was friends with Stalin. he called him "Uncle Joe". It's true. Look at Vietnam, the first thing you commucrat installed in that war was the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone). A section where we could not go after the enemy and they routinely used to supply, regroup, and attack our own soldiers. Oh but you commucrats do know how to kill our own soldiers, 53,000 in Vietnam alone. Over 1/2 million in WWII. I will have to say your party is the party of KILLERS not winners.

It would have to be Israel. The only way to bring a peaceful resolution to the Middle east would be a treaty and cease fire that Israel would have to be instrumental in.
