Do you feel a certain sence of pride and/or triumph when someone from your race accomplishes something big? For example, when someone becomes the first Latino or Asian to do or become something. Or when you find out an African- American or Native-American invented something.

On the flip side of that do you feel embarrased or personally offended when someone of your race does something hugely and publicly horrible?

I guess this to be true of any group of people, when someone from that same group achieves something amazing, it makes you proud to be of that group. I guess I'm a minority since I'm a white guy in Africa.

I feel more of a sense of irritation when people talk about "the first black person to do....." because it shouldn't really matter, and also because black people should have been doing more big huge important stuff than we've been doing. When someone black does something important, everyone acts surprised, as if they didn't realize that we were capable of doing ANYTHING. It's sort of annoying.

On the other hand, I get extremely embarrased when someone black is in the news for doing some stupid mess. Remember the DC sniper? And you know how Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson just won't shut up? How embarassing is that?

Never. No person does something good or bad on behalf of any race or ethnic group. I feel pride in my own accomplishments or the accomplishments of my friends and family. On a larger scale I celebrate the victories of Americans as whole.

As Americans we shouldn't focus on the race of a person at all. We should focus on the achievements and accomplishments. It doesn't help. No one's gifted, talented, or intelligent because of his/her race. Neither, is one criminal, ignorant, or less due to race. Focusing on the race of the person only furthers racism. It will never end if we don't stop focusing on race. Good luck. 2D

Though I am not a minority, I can certainly understand why there would be a bit of pride when a minority accomplishes something big.
What I do not understand is why African-Americans are saying Barac O'Bama isn't black enough. What does that mean?
