Are you good at it? I can't do much more than mend a hole in a pair of pants.

I love to sew. I don't do it as much as I'd like to. If you really want to learn, get simple patterns to start. Sometimes thrift shops sell patterns for cheap (they cost like 50 cents or so and make sure they are uncut) and this is how I taught myself. Remember not to get frustrated and take your time. Go through the pattern and instructions step by step. It will get easier.

I began sewing when I was six, by hand; I wasn't allowed to use the machine until I eight. I used pattern until I was about 16, then I began making my own, usually simple skirts and things like that. Skirts are now my big specialty, and I have one that's been knocked off and is in discount stores. I began doing alterations as a teen for extra spending money, I worked with a bridal shop. After many years and many professional twists and turns I'm now a pro, I do custom design and dressmaking and I put out a small line of separates that sells in boutiques. I do most of my own sewing, except for anything denim, that's done in a ISO certified shop. I've been sewing all my life practically and it does take time and practice to get good. To become good you need to be willing to try new things and to be prepared to make mistakes and learn from them. Like they say on Mythbusters, "failure is always an option." I've had some spectacular failures in sewing and designing, but all have taught me important lessons. I've never thought of them as personal judgments against my character, I've always believed they were learning opportunities. Keep plugging away and remember the old cliché about practice makes --if not perfect then practice makes improvements. And right now I have one huge learning opportunity waiting for me in the studio, it was supposed to be a fake fur lined coat, only now it looks like a muppet attacking a ski jacket....

I've been sewing for almost 30 years (ok 27 years. I started at age 6).
Right now I'm making Bridesmaid dresses for my sister's wedding.
I have several projects started and then put on hold for whatever reason.

Yes I'd have to say I'm pretty good at it. I can make a dress that the pattern says 2 hour I can make it in 45 minutes if I have everything all cut out. I need a better machine tho. I have a cheap one from Walmart. I've had it now for 4 years so it's time to upgrade. Maybe with tax return in the spring.

I've made simple curtains and some pillows before...and I've made a few quilt tops, but hate the quilting part, so I have three that are sitting in a bin waiting to be quilted.

I just bought a sewing machine one day and some fabric and started cutting and sewing. Don't be afraid!

Yes I sew a lot. I am good at square-ish things like baby quilts, curtains, pillows, kitchen towels, etc. I would not even try making clothes, however!

I do a bit of embroidery. I'm no expert, but I do a reasonable job of most, and a good job if I'm using aida cloth. I'm slowly learning to dressmake as part of our SCA involvement. I've made a few tunics, none of which fit properly, but they don't fall apart in the wash, so to me they're pretty good! I'm part way through making my first cotehardie, a fitted tunic. I have to find someone to show me how to get the sleeve in. Somehow theory isn't following practise...

I make most of my family's clothes, but I draw the line at shoes and socks. I've worn out one serger and two sewing machines, and the master bedroom in this house is my designated sewing room... we sleep in a smaller room.

I do cross stitch kits. I am good at them and have been doing them since I was five years old.
