They were a hard rock band, not metal under any circumstances.

OK, if you were more than just a wet spot in your parents bed during the late '80's, then you would know that GNR was "Heavy Metal". So was Warrant, Winger and even Bon Jovi & Slaughter. Metallica saw radio play ONLY with "One" and ZZ Top's "Le Grange" was "hard rock". Bob Dylan was "classic rock" and Pantera was "boo"ed off the stage when they opened for Skid Row in Oklahoma City.

The definition of Heavy Metal has changed with the times, so if you are reffering to "Chinese Democracy", then NO thats not "Heavy Metal" as it is viewed today

It's a matter of perspective. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, people get to caught up on LABELS. They are descriptive terms that don't describe accurately, like pretty much any other adjective: nice, cute, cold, busy. The only thing NOT relative is TRUTH.

HA! That's like when people called Pink Floyd hard rock, and Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull metal!
No, not even close, they are definitely hard rock. Some people get their genres confused alot.

They're mainly hard rock. Sometimes they're called metal, but I don't think they are. I guess in a certain perspective, you could call them a hard rock band that brushed upon metal, but only with their first album.
