We prefer Plano but Mckinney housing seems cheaper. Can you tell me about either town and the pros and cons?

McKinny is located right next to Allen and is building up very nicely. Housing is affordable and new. A lot of amenities for a family. Plano is not that far away but been around for a lot of years. Nothing wrong with it, but it is somewhat crowded. Housing is a bit more expensive.

Frisco is really booming and I can well recommend it, but it IS about 20 miles from Allen. McKinney can give you everything that Frisco does, and it's a LOT closer.

The one bad thing about McKinney is the North Central Expressway (US-75). It's your main highway and it's ALWAYS been crowded. They just can't keep it updated fast enough. But to be honest, that's also the case with nearly any other area during rush hour.

Plano has the advantage of being in DART, so that you can catch buses and the train to get to all of Dallas and west to Ft.Worth for a few dollars all day if you don't want to drive. Of course, it is not restricted to residents, so you could drive from McKinney as well.
I live near downtown Dallas and consider Plano to be expensive and snobbish and McKinney to be more rural and laid back. Based on my last two trips north of Plano about two years apart, I would not be surprised to find that my impression of McKinney is out of date and it has grown like everything up there.
If he is going to be working in Allen, you might consider that town. http://www.cityofallen.org/
Have you visited the area? What is important beyond the job?

Take a look at Frisco or Allen. Great schools, awesome development of parks, etc. Don't recommend Plano unless you don't have kids in school (reason is that by the time you get to HS, graduating classes are like 1000).
