Don't take BART; it's a hassle if you're not familiar with it.

And it depends what time of night you're arriving. If it's evening, like before 10 PM, a shuttle would be cheapest (about $18 with tip) for an individual. Go upstairs to the departure level to catch the shuttles.

If it's late at night, a taxi would be best, as the shuttles slow down; sometimes you have to call ahead to get one in late hours. The cab will cost around $40, but would be well worth it, especially if there's more than one person traveling.

there are two ways. shuttle really isnt an option because it's like about 15 from the airport to your hotel. Taxi is one option, they're at the airport all hours and serve San Francisco so they are willing to drive. The cost of a taxi will be around like $30-40. The other option is BART, which is the local public transportation. One way to the Embarcadero center (Embarcadero station) is $5.15. Takes like half the time than taking it to the freeway and lets you out right in front of your hotel if you're staying at the Hyatt.

You could catch BART from their airport station and get off in San Francisco at the Embarcadero Station. This is the final San Francisco stop before it goes into the tube under the bay to Oakland.

I agree with others, though, if you are tired and especially if you aren't sure where your hotel is located, it might be safer to take a taxi from the airport directly to your hotel rather than walking around the downtown streets at night not knowing where you need to go.

Super Shuttle will cost $16 and will take you straight to the hotel. Another $1 tip for your bags. You can reserve it online too. You can take some of the other shuttles---it will be about $1 less, but some of their vans are not as well cared for! BART is a good alternative, but it is a little unnerving for someone new to the system. Plus depending on when you arrive at nigt, BART can be sa little creepy.

if you arrive before 11:30 pm, take bart, our local commuter train. it goes from the international terminal at the airport to a blcok away from the embarcadero center. it's very easy to use if you are at all familiar with subways.

otherwise take a shuttle, not a cab.

Take a cab. I will cost more but it will direct. Probably around $40.

If you take a shuttle there might be a chance that there are other stops if there are other passengers in the same van.
