but is it possible to get pregnant if the birth control is not producing enough estrogen
my period comes but it keeps getting light and heavy

If you're on BC pills, they're usually 99.9% safe, as long as you take them regularly. Have you skipped taking any of your pills? Your cycle changes overtime & they can vary due to stress, illness, medication or loss of weight.
The best is to check in with your doc. & see what she/he has to say. I would also check in with your female relatives (mom, sister or aunt, if any have been on BC pills) & see what is normal for your family.
