80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

Well i guess there are two parts your inner circle
which is your freinds and family and supporting and loving them and your husband and children, doing things with people and to help people has alot more meaning than just mere money.
And your outter circle which is doing things to change or help society for the better like voulnteer work, donating to disabled children, running a marathon and holding fairs e.c.t

Meaning? All there needs to be is direction. I know most people here hates the idea of giving your life to God but what else is there to give? People grow old, their skins prune up, and they seldom love themselves because some part of their life is missing (like a partner, God, or family). Well, life is life. You shouldn't worry about something you have no control over.
P.S. All humans, without exception, will eventually die.

I know that what gives my life meaning is studying the Bible and worshipping God. I always remember that this is only the first half of my life and although it is important to enjoy life, I think all too often we forget that there are bigger things in this universe than us, and we should learn to respect and appreciate them. I think that is what the meaning of life is.

Meaning? I try not think too much on the meaning but I feel like the meaning of my life is giving to others. I am very uncomfortable taking or accepting--even compliments--I do not accept well. But I love doing and giving to others.

They say, 'It is better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all.' How do they know this? Have they conducted scientific tests and replicated results independently, or is this just rhetoric designed to encourage us all to be heroic? What's so wrong with giving up and backing down? Aren't we all just better off learning to accept whatever we don't like and to conform with whatever we wish we could change? I'm only teasing. In your heart you know that you must fight your corner now. You are right.

The meaning of life changes from person to person, but the universal constant within each is the desire for something. Be it love, suicide, children, happiness, the desire of that is the meaning of life to someone.

why should there be a meaning?? we always tend to overcomplicate things, looking for meanings and contexts. Why not just let go?? Just enjoy your life one day at the time, fight for survival if you have to, but live, enjoy, you only have this chance once, why spend it contemplating?
