the first one can not be worked out partly because there are no variables in it like the others and the equation is not balanced.... 2392 = 0 this can not work...

b^2 - 5b = 0.... factor out a b

b(b - 5) = 0... now that you have 2 terms set each to 0

b = 0... this one is done....

b - 5 = 0 ... add 5 to both sides

b = 5 ... now this one is done

a^2 - 9a +20 can be factored to....

(a - 4)(a - 5) set eact to 0

a - 4 = 0 ... add 4 to both sides...

a = 4... this one is done

a - 5 = 0... add 5 to both sides....

a = 5 ... this one is done

0 = y(y + 4) ... set each to 0

y = 0 .... this one is done....

y + 4 = 0 ... subtract 4 from each side

y = -4 ... this one is done

huh? do you mean solve for the unknown variables? Well the first problem doesnt really make sense to me since 49^2 - 9 does NOT equal 0.

2007-10-22 07:17:59 · answer #5 · answered by Marco 2 · 0 0

first one is not equal. bc 7 does not equal 3.
b is either 0, or 5 both of them are right answers
(a-4)(a-5) for third, bc -4, -5 comes to +20
v=0 and v=-4

49^2-9=0
is it 49^(2)-9
or 49^(2-9)=0
sam with the other ones =/
