I am working on making organza overlays for the tables at my wedding reception. The table is a circle with a 72 inch diameter, most of the fabric I have found is 60 inches wide. How can I make these without an obvious seam? I have been looking around for the 118 inch fabric but there doesn't seem to be much selection.

You could use a runner instead of a full overlay. You could cross two over each other like an X.

Well, you could look for sheet sets, or maybe curtains, and make your tablecloths from them, but that would probably be expensive.

To use 60 inch (150 cm) material, add extra material at each side to get the width you want. For a ~120 inch table cloth (giving an over hang of about 22 inches), cut two lengths of material to 120 inches, then cut one of those in half to give 2 pieces each 30 x 120 inches. Sew these to each side of the main piece, and then make your circle from this large square.

Good luck!

You may try looking online. In my searches for quilting fabric, there seems to be a MUCH greater selection online than in stores.

You may also want to consider sewing pieces together using a French Seam. It's still a seam - but much "prettier", IMO, than a normal seam, and works very well with laces and other sheer fabrics.

You could just make the overlay a square, or keep it round but let the undercloth hang down below it for a couple of feet.. It looks romantic and requires less fabric.

There should be a set of engraved lines on your footplate (the metal plate that goes under the sewing foot). You can extend any of those lines by cutting a strip of freezer tape and taping it parallel to the sewing foot the same distance from the needle as the width of the seam you want to make.
