I'm looking for favorites that you know it's OK for you to eat.

L A D Y G, I just started mine today. I am one of those people who eats because I am suppose to, not because it brings me comfort so here is goes. I had oatmeal, a banana, glass of 1% milk and OJ for breakfast. I didn' have lunch. For dinner I had baked 4 oz. chicken breast (with salt/pepper and onions), Brussels sprouts, 1 1/2 pieces of rye bread with Smart Balance, about a pat. A salad with tomatoes, lettuce, kidney beans, beets, and chick peas, (no dressing) with a glass of water. Are you salivating yet? lol Then for my snack I had a tablespoonful of sunflower seeds and natural peanut butter. An apple before bed. I can eat all the candy I want as long as it is not chocolate. Plus I am not diabetic nor overweight. I had dinner mints and Good & Plenties. So glad I had my roast beef dinner last night. My nutritionist wants me to eat 2 fruits and 3 veggies a day. I also do 30-minute walks.

My wife made herself in charge of what I eat. I guess she must be doing something right. My cholesterol numbers have been pretty good along with my diabetes numbers. Of all the things I am not suppose to eat I am allowed to eat once a week is butter with my toast for breakfast. I love that woman. At least there is some give on her part as to what I can eat.
I eat red meat once a month. All breads are wheat. Pasta is wheat. I don't like dairy products so that's no problem. OK, So I cheat and eat a little cheese. LOL. Once every two weeks i can eat 2 slices of pizza.
I missed the good old days. Eating with reckless abandon.

Worked in a home for people with MR and there was a guy with BAD cholesterol problems. We started by switching to canola oil (raises good cholesterol). We replaced bacon with turkey bacon, and eggs with egg beaters, and butter with smart start. Every morning he ate 1 cup of high antioxidant fruit. Within a few months his cholesterol was perfect.

Boca/garden burgers are good too. Boiled rice instead of fried. Almost anything has a substitute....there are even sausages made from chicken. Avoid pork at all costs...but otherwise it has more to do with how the food is prepared....

Jell-O...Lots & lots of Jell-O! No meat. No fish. Minimum of 1 fresh fruit daily, steamed vegetables, brown rice, nothing fried. Simple dishes such as beans & rice=a complete protein, which takes the place of having to eat meat! No added salt. If I eat eggs, which is rare, I only have ONE yolk from a 2 egg omelet (omit before cooking). I don't eat out due to the health risks. I eliminated trans fats years ago. I occasionally have some butter on my whole wheat toast, however, I find that using a yogurt based margarine doesn't leave me wanting MORE of that wonderful butter. I use light soy milk on my cereal. Use a coffee replacement by the name of ROMA, which is a grain beverage containing chickory & barley. Other than that, I just keep it very simple & if my skin gets too dry, then I know that it's time to put more fat content in my diet. I rarely eat large meals. I snack on small amounts every 4-6 hours & drink only water after my morning hot beverage. If I feel stressed at night, I have herbal tea. I never add sugar or artificial sweetners to my food or drink because it simply sends my back to wanting to go back to eating in my old unhealthy ways! Every few months, I DO cheat & have something that I probably shouldn't. I'm only human & I gotta have my chocolate sometimes! I also keep my sodium intake at 500-1000mg per day...never more. I keep fat intake to under 30g (usually 15 daily). This seems to work for me. I can't guarantee it will work for everyone. I have slow metabolism due to heart problems. I do passive exercise for minimum 30 minutes daily. Basic walking & stretching only. No running or pounding or cardio-type things 4 me. Like I said...not for everyone.

Dinners for us: Beans with rice [the complete protein dish] with sprinkles of red onions, cilantro, chopped tomatoes, parsley snips... tastes like Real Food and isn't boring. Oatmeal in the morning, with sliced almonds, raisins, 1/2 tbsp brown sugar and a small pat of Smart Balance butter substitute [no need for milk] and lasts in the tummy longer than any other kind of brunch or brekk. Snax: JellyBelly beans, raw apple slices, more raisins... Extra points for figuring out how many Mrs. Dash seasoning types there are - saves plain old skinned chicken every time. p.s., cholesterol readings from cardio gang yesterday were A+ - back on the treadmill [sigh].

I'm too much a creature of habit, so I still pretty much eat the same things. Now I just switch them up a lot, going for less bad fats. I've started reading labels AND the ingredients....those first three are the real give away as to what's in a product. (Even if a product's label states it has no trans fats, that's NOT always the case.) Fortunately I love fruit and vegetables, don't have a problem with low-fat or no-fat milk and dairy items, and find that my favorite comfort food...good ol' oatmeal...are all just what the doctor ordered!

I am a firm believer in oatmeal..I decided several months ago to eat a better breakfast so started with 1/2 cup {uncooked} oatmeal 1 cup berries and 1 cup skim milk..one year ago my cholesterol was 169, normal is below 200..last week it was 144 and everything else had dropped too. {Triglycerides, Ldl, etc.} I eat lots of fruit and veggies, but eat anything else I want..I am a firm believer Cholesterol is in your genes..but most of the time it can be controlled with diet, exercise{ugg} and/or medication...

I lowered my cholesterol 53 points in a few months and dropped over 30 lbs. I work at subway and it was very easy to eat fresh everyday. Just have to watch the dressings and eat the high fiber wheat bread. Also had cooked oatmeal or cheerios for breakfast with skim milk. good luck

I'm a vegan, and I know the bible very well. I believe that God intended us to be omnivores- even Jesus ate fish. What I don't believe is that God would approve of the meat and dairy industry with their cloning, hormones, abuse, etc. I don't think anyone can deny that our anatomy was designed to digest meat, but I also don't think that anyone can deny that we have the choice to be herbivores. If things were different, and we all fished and went hunting on our own, I really would have no problem having a diet that includes meat. But lo and behold, that isn't how things are. I don't believe that God meant for things to be this way, we humans have truly corrupted the system. It doesn't clearly say in the bible that we were meant to be vegetarian, or vegan and it doesn't clearly say that we were meant to eat meat. But In this day and age, I believe it's the best choice to make out of your own judgement.

I once lowered my cholesterol 35 points by eating nothing but salads and some chicken for lunch and dinner for 6 weeks. My doctor and I were very pleased.
