Well, I can almost guarantee he's not ready. He missed all of camp, and probably is not even taking snaps with the first team offense yet. However, I do not think the argument that you should sit rookie QBs all year no matter what is valid. If you make a list (I've seen one) over every first round QB taken in the last 30 years, then compared the ones who sat their first year and the ones who started, you'd see that it's almost an even split between which ones went on to be solid starters and which ones were complete busts.
Russel's biggest knock since he got drafted has always been that he wasn't mature enough as a QB to step in early, and I doubt that's changed since he signed his contract. Without a more developed ability to find open receivers on busted plays, it's hard to believe he's ready enough to run an offense where he isn't 100% comfortable with the entire playbook.

Not me. Give Culpepper a chance to win some more games. He was a great player before he got injured. There is no proof at all Russell will amount to anything special in the NFL. No way is he worth 60+ million. Joe Montana never made that in his entire career and they give someone with no experience 60 million.

Well, I'm not sure how much worse it can be than watching Daunte Culpepper. I loved that guy with the Vikes, but wow, has he ever fallen from grace. He can't run, and he stares at his receivers, telegraphing things perfectly for the defense.
If Jamarcus has learned the playbook, give him some time on the field. The Raiders are going nowhere, so why not work on the future?

It's always an iffy thing to rush a rookie QB out there, where you end up with serious self esteem issues after you lose 10 games and get sacked roughly 50 times a game.
Compare, say, Alex Smith, Eli Manning and David Carr, all quickly rushed to the starting gates, and Phillip Rivers and Tony Romo, who were backups for two years a piece before getting the starting job, and having Pro Bowl seasons.
Although, the Niners, Giants, and Texans were not exactly the Chargers and Cowboys...

Not me, I think they should get their money out of Culpepper, they got the next seven years to get their money out of Jamarcus Russell. Plus if they get a Free Agent or two next year they can be playoff contenders

They're not gonna put Russell out there until they cannot win the AFC West, which is led by San Diego at 3-3.
You won't see JaMarket out there until either the Traitors are out of it, or something catastrophic happens to one of the vets Culpepper or McCown. (McCown's foot was hurt, only a two-week injury.)

When you put a rookie QB on the field you announce that your season is OVER. Unlikely as it may be, the Raiders still have a chance in that division.
