Of all the states of the union, California has the most varied climates of them all. Snow, sun, rain, deserts, mountains, beaches... Brush fires occur because it suddenly gets hot here and we just aren't prepared for it. Also, it's too costly to take preventative measures every year; it's cheaper to deal with these fires as they happen.

RE:
Why does California always seem to get the wildfires?
90% of the time these tragedies seem to occur in California, and often in areas where the celebrities have their vacation homes such as Malibu. Year after year we hear about these fires in the news.
How come Washington state, British Columbia, the east, etc don't suffer from these fires as...

Most of California is considered "desert" topographically and the climate is extremely arid. The forestation of California is highly flammable and contains pines and creosotes and vegitation that is nearly explosive when flame is applied. Fires that would otherwise be easily contained are quite often fueled by the amazing force of the Santa Ana winds, which are the most fierce I have ever experienced. These crazily shifting very hot winds can make fires literally perform gymnastics, jumping concrete and highways and otherwise non flammable land mass. So Cal can go rainless for very long periods of time and the vegetation that results is usually very drought proof, tangled, low to the ground and ready fuel for fire that spreads quickly. The canyons and valleys make it very difficult to keep this kind of brush cleared and also difficult to navigate for firefighters and equipment. It isn't really that God hates Malibu, Malibu just happens to typify this problematic climate/geopgraphy complexity. Wildfires happen everywhere. It is the out of control enormity and possible celebrity impact of the Cali wildfires that give it the media play.

Mostly because California is dry, especially Southern California, and spreads very quickly from place to place as you have heard from the news. Though the ones near Irvine, were caused purposely by someone who litted a fire on a toll road. In Malibu, I guess it's because there are a lot of brushes around and is easy to catch on fire

Actually they happen all over the west. California happens to be a large state so a lot of fires occur there. California happens to be one of the large media epicenters so when something happens to California the whole world needs to hear about it! Very few people have heard of the fires in Idaho, because apparently California is more important.

it's the way of the world. the redwood trees are born out of fire. the seeds are designed to withstand the fires and without the fires they are unable to grow.
